Frequently Asked Questions

How does laser tattoo removal work?

Our Trinity laser directs ultra-quick pulses of light energy onto your unwanted tattoo using a variety of wavelengths. The ink particles that make up your tattoo absorb the light energy, heat up, and shatter into tiny fragments. The fragmented particles are naturally removed by your body’s immune system causing your tattoo to fade. Multiple treatments are needed to completely remove your tattoo. For a more detailed answer, visit our laser tattoo removal page to learn more.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed is unique to each patient and their tattoo. Tatt Cemetery uses a variety of factors to determine the number of treatments you will need. These factors include your tattoo’s age, size, location, colors, your skin type, and more. Patients with complex tattoos may require 5 to 10 treatments for complete removal, whereas patients with older, less vibrant tattoos, or those interested in simply fading their tattoo may require 3 to 4 treatments. Our Astanza Trinity laser is designed to shatter more ink with each session, speeding up the removal process and reducing the number of overall treatments needed. One of our laser specialists will assess your tattoo and figure out a treatment plan during your free consultation.

How long do treatments take?

Depending on the size and density of your tattoo, treatments can take anywhere from 1 to 30 minutes. For example, a black outline tattoo the size of a quarter may take 1 minute to trace with the laser, but an extra large tattoo with various colors may take anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. Overall, laser tattoo removal is a very quick procedure and can even be completed during a lunch break!

How long does it take to completely remove my tattoo?

Even with the best laser technology, laser tattoo removal is still a process that takes time, patience, and commitment. Although individual treatment sessions are very quick, most of the laser tattoo removal process is a waiting game. Treatments are spaced a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks apart to give your skin enough time to heal and your immune system enough time to remove the shattered ink before your next session. Some patients may experience faster results than other patients depending on how quickly they heal. Tatt Cemetery guarantees that the results are well worth the wait!

Does the laser hurt?

This answer depends entirely on your pain tolerance. Most patients compare the laser to a rubber band snapping against the skin while others say it feels like getting a tattoo applied all over again – except much quicker. Luckily, Tatt Cemetery utilizes the best skin numbing solution in the industry, the Zimmer Cryo cooling device. This machine helps alleviate your skin before, during, and after your treatment.

Are there permanent side effects to laser tattoo removal?

Laser tattoo removal is considered the safest method for removing unwanted tattoos. Permanent scarring is highly unlikely and is definitely prevented as long as proper aftercare is applied. Temporary side effects may be experienced, including itchiness, swelling, tenderness, redness, scabbing, blistering, and hypo or hyperpigmentation. All of these side effects are natural reactions to the laser and will heal over the weeks following each treatment. Tatt Cemetery will provide each patient with a detailed list of aftercare instructions to ensure the best results.

Can you fade my tattoo for a cover-up or remove a specific part only?

Yes and yes! Laser tattoo removal is a great tool for patients interested in covering up an existing tattoo. In fact, more tattoo artists prefer to work on a lightened tattoo than trying to cover-up an overly dark tattoo. Fading an existing tattoo will not only give your tattoo artist an easier canvas to work on, and it will also give you more flexibility when designing a cover-up tattoo. Our Trinity laser is also capable of removing specific parts of your tattoo while leaving the surrounding ink untouched.
